Faust's grandson Scott Burkhardt came into possession of the collection in the 1990s. He donated the films to CFA in 2024.

Faust, Chester E.

Chester E. Faust was born in Attica, Indiana in 1900. He went to the University of Illinois and became an accountant. He moved to the Chicago area, and married Mildred Elliott in 1923. They had one daughter, Norma, born in 1933. He worked for over 50 years for Chicago-based J.C. Deacon Plywood Company as the company auditor, secretary, and part-owner. He resided in two areas of Chicago: at 8331 S Crandon Avenue in the city’s South Shore neighborhood, as well as in the Beverly neighborhood at 9827 South Damen Ave. His lifelong passion was photography, and he had a darkroom and theater studio in the basement of his Damen Ave residence. He would additionally set up a screen in his driveway to show films to his neighbors every two weeks. Faust passed away in 1984.
