That took the test for him to become a lawyer.

Told the other state senator to fall back and let my son be the state senator.

That out of the eight years that he was a state's attorney.

He never fought a case in court.

He want our children to go to boot camp.

To make sure that if I leave they themselves can pick up the man in the governing community.

There's a continuation of a redemptive struggle from Mandela to Marion Barry to myself.

For those blacks who said they're standing with him, they have to understand that Daly's fighting us very, very hard.

He's fighting us hard.

We are fighting for our right for representation with the ward remap.

We're the largest ethnic group in this city.

He's spent millions of dollars of the taxpayers' money to denounce our representation in city government.

That's another reason why we gotta dump Daly.

We gotta dump Daly because his father's had us in this century.

We are getting ready with five years from 2000.

The question is, if you go with Daly, you're going back.

If you go with Joe Gardner, you go forward.

We have to dump Daly because we are celebrating Black History Month this month.

We can make Black History February 28th with Joe Gardner.

We have to dump Daly because he's not good for our community, but Joe is.

We gotta understand that for those who are saying that Joe can't win, understand Joe can win.

Joe will win.

We have the numbers and we have the votes.

We just gotta pull ourselves back from that hopelessness.

Daly gotta go.

Daly represents plantation politics.

Daly is very dangerous.

And Daly is dangerous because he got people doing things that we used to fight about.

He got folks who used to say they believed in freedom, now back on the plantation.

He got Black ministers thinking it's alright to support him.

He got Black business folks thinking it's alright.

He got Blacks elected officials afraid to speak out.

We gotta dump Daly so that elected officials can be accountable to the people and not your political boss.

Daly is trying to take us back to the plantation.

But Daly can't take us back if we don't agree to go back.

You can't get mad at Daly for doing what he's doing.

We need to do what we gotta do because we can win this election.

Joe Gardner deserves our support.

Joe Gardner is a good person.

Joe Gardner is gonna be a good man.

Let me tell you something.

I go across this city with Joe.

I'm everywhere.

We go all around.

Don't fool yourself.

People love Joe across the city.

I read in the paper the other day, Daly said he's overspent his money.

Well if he's overspent his money, then you think Joe is a bad candidate? Or do you think Joe is gonna win this election? Joe is gonna win this election.

We're gonna make Daly spend all of his money.

All of his money.

Now, I know I can't talk a long time.

I'm very excited because I've been out in the streets since 10 o 'clock this morning, working.

We got the Dorothy machine on the street.

The Dorothy, Joe Gardner, Ricky Hinton.

Ricky Hinton for clerk, Joe Gardner for mayor, and Dorothy Tillman for alderman.

We got that going on.

That's power in the city council.

That's power on the fifth floor of City Hall.

And once more, and I'm gonna end, let me say that you just got through watching the Promise Land.

You watched black folks coming up here looking for a promise.

You watched black folks sit and look at Old Man Daly.

You watched Old Man Daly knock down people's houses and build development.

You watched all of that.

You watched us migrate from the south to the north.

You watched us go through the civil rights movement on the Old Man Daly.

Don't do this for your children.

That's why we got a dumb Daly.

It's not about us.

Dr.

King said, Dr.

King said that a Negro can't win if he sells the future of his children for his own confidence and safety.

We got a dumb Daly for our children.

This 10 point indictment of Richard Daly.

Hopefully you will take some of these to your churches tomorrow and disseminate them in your churches and particularly those churches of those creatures who are not clear about Richard Daly.

And perhaps in your particular church, they have in fact even endorsed Richard Daly and were among that 100.

So this document, this 10 point indictment, where are they, Bob? Okay, we want to make sure today that people get these in their hands and on tomorrow when you go to church, take them with you.

Now, you all know the 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

It supposedly gave us our emancipation.

It was the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States that allegedly gave us our citizenship.

And it was the 15th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States that allegedly gave us our right to vote in a period of history called Reconstruction.

It was during this time that black people, when they got the word, they fled to plantations in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Georgia, and other places throughout the South.

And they began to exercise their franchise in the Republic from 1863 to 1876 and elected more than nine African Americans to the Congress of the United States.

Electorially, black people almost took over the state of Tennessee and Kentucky and Florida.

But it was in 1876 when white folks decided it was time out for this.

And the Compromise of 1876 and the Blue Clubs Plan came into existence.

And after the Compromise of 1876, from the period of 1876 to the turn of the century, there were more black men lynched in America than any other time in history.

And so it was.

40 to 50 to 60 years later in the movement known as the Civil Rights Movement, but more particularly its transition into what was known the Black Power Movement in this country.

That many actions took place.

And there was one African American elected official in this country by the name of Adam Clayton Powell, who spoke at a church in the spring of 1965 on the South Side of Chicago.

And in that speech, he called for audacious power, that is audacious black power.

And it was in 1966 in Lowndes County, Alabama, on a flatbed truck in a voting rights campaign of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.

And that slogan went out across the country calling for black power.

Now, some of us are confused because in politics today, they don't want us to use our strength.

They don't even want us to say black anymore.

They don't want us to be black anymore.

They just want us to be neutral or neutral.

Well, I'm here to tell you today that what we're fighting for, what we're fighting for is the acquisition of black political power.

I'm going to say it again.

We're fighting for the acquisition of black political power.

And in the structure of government that exists here in the city of Chicago, with a strong mayor who runs and makes appointments to committees and boards, appoints the superintendent of police, appoints the superintendent of the fire department, is in control of the library system, the Department of Streets and Foundation, the Department of Health, and many other important agencies in this city.

And we got Negroes running around here talking about they want to be with white power.

It don't make no sense.

It makes no sense.

And so it was with the support of the black movement forces in Chicago and the representation of one of the finest attorneys in the country, Judge R.

Eugene Pincham, that Brother Edgerton, when did God do this? What time did God do this? And who do witnesses? And so on tomorrow we will convene at Reverend Jake's church at 830 a .m.

at Old St.

Paul Baptist Church where Jim Fields has been the coordinator of this action.

And we will be making some visits to pass out some information.

And hopefully on tomorrow some of those preachers will tell us when God told them to endorse Richard Daly.

We're still waiting on answers.

We're also on tomorrow.

We have to understand that this is a small group of preachers in this city.

There's more than 5 ,000 black churches in Chicago.

This is only a hundred.

And there are hundreds more of African -American ministers now in churches and congregations who are standing up for Joe.

And if they're standing up for Joe, they're having love offerings tomorrow.

And if you don't have a love offering in your church, when you pray tomorrow you ought to tell your preachers that we ought to have a love offering for Joe.

We ought to pray for Joe tomorrow.

And next Sunday also so that we can lift up the spirit of our ancestors because we know in this country and throughout the world none of our movements have been successful without God in the picture.

God has to be in the picture, not a false God coming from the Irish community, coming from the Polish community, coming from the Italian community, coming from somebody else's community.

A God who looks like us.

A God who's directing us.

A God who's directing us against the oppression of African people.

And so on Monday, the African -American ministers in the tradition that Al Sampson and so many other ministers were a part of in January, February of 1983, who took out a full -page ad in the Chicago Defender in case the black church was not for sale.

And more African -American ministers in this town.
