The History of Circle Campus

Transcript (Download)

You will find here an abundance of opportunity organized for you by a highly competent staff and faculty and provided for you by the people of Illinois who believe in high quality education for the youth of this state.

If it were not for the faculty of the university, the campus would be merely a place and the curriculum merely a plan.

The faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle has a tradition of excellence in teaching and it is in the role of teacher that the professor is best known to the students.

As a teacher, the professor seeks to develop in his students the attitudes, skills, and understandings they need to cope with the demands of an ever more complex and demanding society.

The methods of the teacher vary from discipline to discipline and from course to course.

The lecture, a carefully planned expedition of the subject, is the most common method.

But the experience of the laboratory is vital to the development of the students' experience and opinions of others.

In a tutorial session, the teacher guides the individual through the knowledge that occurs.

On October 17, 1963, ceremonies were conducted to commemorate its beginning.

It is not going to be easy for us, but as we look at the students before us, we can say that there has been no occasion that has given us greater satisfaction than this 13th and unveiling of this march.

The march was a symbol of the beginning of a dream, a dream that symbolizes the making of a dream into reality.

A reality which will provide the fullest opportunity for a higher education for the young people in Chicago and the metropolitan area.

A challenge that will no longer be a love dream for the students or the younger people who can afford higher education.
