Perfume, a nice sound.

A nice word for a nice thing.

Perfume, it's pronounced by the dictionary, but are the meanings of perfume.

Memory? At times.

Expectation? Definitely.

Luxury? Oh yes, and necessity.

Today when you rush, rush here, do this, do that, and hurry there, well perfume is a necessity.

A kind of insurance and a touch of glamour.

That's perfume.

Perfume? Well, historically, it began in a time of charms and spells.

And it flourished through centuries of romance and courtship.

Today, of course, perfume is still used to charm and cast spells.

And creating perfume is a unique art.

The art of putting hope in a bottle.

It's a pretty personal thing, perfume is, when it's used well at special pulse points.

At the wrist, at the earlobe, at the throat.

Warm places that let perfume come into full fragrance.

And perfume comes in different strengths, different forms.

So it goes on differently.

With a dab for pure perfume, with a splash of spray for a toilet water or cologne.

Or as a light touch after washing your hair.

Applying perfume is quite an art.

A woman's art.

Creating a perfume is a modern art.

A search for a fragrance and its ingredients.

Some are natural sources.

Flowers and herbs and spices.

Some are animal sources.

Many essential oils are derived from exotic sources.

From roots and bark.

These the perfumer analyzes.

He distills into rare oils.

They are the beginnings of a perfume.

The uses of perfume, well that can be as fashionable as a wardrobe.

And as creative as choosing an outfit to match a mood.

To feel light and casual, there are floral perfumes.

For a smart, sophisticated mood, there are modern perfumes.

Sparkling and tingly.

And for that femme fatale moment, there are oriental or musky, sensuous perfumes.

The possibilities are huge.

As many in fact as one can imagine or dare to.

Imagination is part of the perfumer's art.

Like a composer creating music, the perfumer chooses his ingredients.

And he arranges them like notes.

The first scent you catch is the top note.

The middle note of a perfume comes through next with skin warmth.

And last comes the base note, the essence of the fragrance.

Some of nature's notes are rare.

Some are expensive.

But science has managed to duplicate them.

Exactly.

And in sizable quantities.

To reduce the cost of ingredients to one -tenth the cost.

The result? Wherever science helps the creative perfumer, look to him for new fragrances.

Better ones.

And a wider selection.

Perfume is like personality.

It's that close.

A little bit can go a long way toward enhancing personality.

And when perfume is used creatively, it can be a fine art.

A secret weapon.

Or who knows? After all, perfume is very personal.

But it's not the only thing that's so special about it.

One might say about the nicest thing between two people.
