Firman Cooper (1913-1978) was born in Hixton, WI and lived most of his life in Iola, Wisconsin. He published the local newspaper, the Iola Herald, and also ran a printing business that printed newspapers, magazines, telephone books, and paper schedules for the local movie theater. He was married to Vera Quimby, with whom he had four children: Bill (1937-1996), Lloyd (1940-1995), Neil (1942 - ) and Jane (1947- ). He received an 8mm camera from his family as a Christmas present in 1947.

Vera (Quimby) Cooper (1911-1981) was born in Manawa, Wisconsin and lived most of her life in Iola, Wisconsin. She was a housewife and aspiring actress. She met her husband Firman Cooper on a blind date in Manawa. They married in 1934 and had four children: Bill (1937-1996), Lloyd (1940-1995), Neil (1942 - ) and Jane (1947 - ).
