Abstract
This footage by JoAnn Elam was shot in 1976, possibly during Elam’s visit to friends and relatives for her high school reunion in Kansas City, MO, where she went to high school from 1964 through 1966. In the first part, the camera focuses on the family and friends cooking, playing, and talking outside, before it starts spinning around. The second part takes place during a car ride, with the camera filming the houses and mansions from inside the moving vehicle. The woman behind the wheel was one of Elam’s good friends, Vicky, whose house in Washington, D.C. and husband appear in DC ‘82 Home. V’s Dogs also refers to her. Many other elements in this collection, such as Highway and Elma + Deans, are filmed from inside a moving car, which suggests that Elam found car rides interesting occasions to film people and places around her in motion. The title refers to the location, Kansas City.
