Abstract
Lem Blossom (Charles Ray)—inventor, fire chief of Mosville, and son of a pumpkin farmer—falls in love with unsophisticated country girl Mary Griggs (Duane Thompson). His rival for her hand is the worldly Tom Perkins (Hallam Cooley), who is conspiring with her father, Josh (Bert Woodruff), to corner the pumpkin market. When Lem fails to sell his father's pumpkins, Pa Blossom (George Fawcett) in desperation turns bootlegger. Lem learns that the pumpkin crop up north has been destroyed by frost and attempts to corner the market himself by offering a $1,000 prize for the largest pumpkin. The Griggs' home catches fire, and Lem saves Josh and Mary with the aid of his water pump and folding ladder, both his own inventions. Josh then blesses the union of Lem and Mary. (AFI)
