There's an hour of the day that's reserved only for fishermen.
It's that moment right after dawn when the only sound is a sound of the sea and the goals.
Here at San Diego's Konakai Marina, there's a boat that's been preparing to go fishing for hours.
The 85 -foot chabasco is one of the 4 ,000 boats on America's coast, specializing in that popular pastime, party boat fishing.
Two green horns to the sport are nightclub and television comedians George Kirby and Red Box.
Ask the chabasco's captain and owner, Lee Palm, who catches the most fish on party boats? The pros or the beginners? And he'll probably tell you that the odds are even.
In that case, Red and George have as good as chances any of the 15 million passengers that party boats take to see each year.
This vessel will be holding a course southwest from San Diego in the summer of the Pacific's finest fishing ground.
And if they aren't able to catch fish, live anchovies from these bait tanks, then they're just not going to be fish to be caught.
Thank you, George.
It looks good.
Oh, that's great.
It's great.
Hey, here's a little toast.
And a little toast.
Huh? Good fishing day.
May we catch many, many.
Let's go.
No, no, no.
No, no, no.
Hey, look at that.
That's the Indian side of my family.
No.
I think Red Box is the Greek.
Oh, I can't wait to get out here.
I'm here.
I'm here.
Hey, listen.
I'm ready.
How about you? Let's go, Dad.
Let's get on out of here.
Oh, OK, fine.
Why don't we take a walk up here to the bow, or we can watch the boat take a walk? And join the sides as we go by.
All right, great.
We'll take another bow.
We got some power.
Well, they don't mess around when they say, let's pull out.
They mean, let's pull out.
That's right.
We get them fired up and ready to get going here.
An engine sound like a wing.
That's how much it goes.
Wow.
Look at that.
Get up there.
You can sit up there.
It's a nice place.
Sit, George.
But don't fall in.
You don't realize it is this high.
They literally have any sea lions around here.
Yeah, we might see some going out.
Really? Yeah.
Little kids.
Look at that.
Hey, look here.
Aren't you traveling too close to the Navy over there now? That's the Navy, one of the Navy bases over there.
And that's part of the equipment that they use in the study work out here.
What about sharks out here? Those sharks out here, and we don't fish for them, but we catch them every once in a while accidentally.
I like that.
You know, it's a shark today, man.
Take your things.
Huh? I'd get a shot at one.
Shark steaks.
Not to eat it, no.
I would just take a shot at it, you know.
You can eat shark steaks.
You can eat shark steaks.
I can't eat them.
Well, I was wrong.
It makes that flaky.
That's useless.
No.
I'll do it.
You know what I just noticed? This is not usual name for a boat.
Chabasco? Chabasco.
Chabasco.
Chabasco.
What does that mean? That means Spanish isn't it? Yes, that means in Mexico, it's a hurricane.
In other words, in Mexico, they don't call them hurricanes.
They call them chabascoes.
And that means a big win.
And we built this boat.
We put so much power in it.
It was so fast we'd had to get some kind of a name that matches.
So we call it the Chabasco.
Well, I got a Chabasco at home.
It's a big win.
Is she cook? Yeah.
You have a good one.
The Chabasco's party will be dropping their lines into the Pacific right after this.
Oh, baby.
Man, they've done conclut.
Oh, breakfast.
Yeah.
Have a good breakfast, sir.
Oh, I'm telling you.
By the time you came out.
Yeah, I'm ready to go fishing now.
Me too.
You ready to go fishing now? Yeah, let's go back here.
I'm going to get you started, which way? How'd I get this? Good.
Made on back here.
Well, you just take the hook and that's it.
I'll put it into the dinner fishies.
No, I'll have a little more trick to it tonight.
You get on these anchovies now.
Don't handle them too rough.
Hold them gently.
Uh -huh.
And hook him right.
You see, you got to hook him right behind the collar here.
Not too deep.
Just behind the collar so he stays nice and light.
And get him in the water as fast as you can, huh? Right.
Put it down.
And this is a really good idea to just cast it out here a little ways.
That's where the bigger fish are out there.
There it is.
There it is.
That one out there.
Very good.
Red, just go ahead and get started.
Oh.
Red, I'm going to get the first fish you watch me see.
Well, I'm going to get the first berries.
Man, I'm going to get the first.
You know what the berries man is, don't you? Here's where the attack all over.
It's like a little round.
It's like a little round.
You're going to get the whole wrapped up in there.
Yeah.
And there were two eggs we had for breakfast.
There's good breakfast, huh? It was a dream, but I had four eggs.
You did.
Come on with it, fishy.
I don't need to be the poof.
I don't need to be the poof.
There's a rim on the tongue who I've waiting on here.
Yeah, give me that.
Oh, and then we'll say, we need to be the two plants.
You need to be the fish that's eating the mom of the fish.
And then we'll say, we'll say the mom of the fish.
And then we'll say, we'll put the tab.
That was a good one.
We'll put them to boo.
Boo boo boo boo boo.
That was a good one.
Boo boo boo boo boo boo boo.
You can't put them to boo boo boo boo boo.
I'm going to say, we'll have a man to just play the mom.
We'll put them to boo boo boo boo boo boo boo boo.
It's not like two of the meals and brothers.
Oh, you got something? I have got some red.
Come on baby, I got you you ain't getting away from me.
I'm gonna get up, George.
I've got you.
That's it.
Hey look, where did you get it? Pulling on in.
I'm gonna get something.
Well baby.
Wait a minute, hold on.
Look at that.
Wow, that's a beauty.
Great, good.
What is that? It's a white fish.
A white fish.
Hey man, I'm gonna play that.
Wow.
I'm gonna try to get me a black man.
It's a good evening.
It is a good evening.
Absolutely.
Alright, drop me in the tank there.
We'll take care of that well.
Well, we better try and get some milk, huh? Please don't.
Alright, let's go back in here.
You want to go home? Oh, look at that.
Look at that.
Look at that.
Oh man, look at that.
Bring him in.
Bring him in.
Bring him in.
Hey, bring him in.
Wait a minute, man.
I don't lose him.
What's the matter? You're the one holding him.
Bill him in.
Oh, look at that.
Look at the mouth, hold him.
You know what's up, Joey? I'm the fisherman on this ship, Red Fox.
What's this? You don't get it.
You get that, that's nothing, oh.
What the kind of fish is? What kind of fish is it? He's so...
Oh, he's okay.
He's okay.
I got a hat.
Still would like to get the score one to one.
I would lower it.
Patience.
That's what this whole sport's about.
Patience.
I don't understand any of that.
30 pounds.
30 pounds.
Remember how we used to fish out in Washington Park? Yeah, Chicago, man.
That was during that pressure.
4 o 'clock in the morning, and get bread and sprinkling that on the water.
And then put a piece of bread on it.
On a safety pin.
Right.
No rod or nothing.
Pull him out of there.
Sunfish.
Good evening.
Right, little small fish.
They were really nice.
Yeah, I remember we caught them butterfly stews up here.
Yeah, in Chicago, got a butterfly.
Sweet and got big sandaline green.
A lot of people made wine with them.
That was great.
We had round down the line, green to bedenna.
See, listen.
You talked about depression.
Remember when he was going out there? He said, cool to my house.
And we got rabbit.
Even when I was applauding in the squirrels.
Yeah.
Good a rod.
Right.
Like I went hunting with a guy.
I was a shot of white.
What do you call it? Cut and tail.
Rabbit.
And then he took a rifle and shot the rabbit again.
It's almost laid in the rabbit.
We couldn't put it in the skill.
Yeah.
And then it shipped me to North.
Gentlemen, George, I got something.
Oh, oh, yeah.
You got one.
Come on.
Keep your sandal, man.
Oh, you got a good one there.
Oh, good.
You got a big one on there.
Wow.
Wow, man.
I can't even pull it up.
Yes, you can.
Go ahead.
Just keep your sandaline.
I'm going to take out the boom.
Keep pulling, man.
Play with it.
Keep your sand up.
That's it.
It's going to come up.
Go ahead.
I'm going to saw it off if I keep it.
Good, man.
Good, good.
Good.
That's the bad cuda.
The red fox got a bad cuda.
Go ahead, fox.
I know it.
See that? That's bringing it.
Come on.
All right, Dave Captain.
I don't know if you're reading one.
Is that the real bad cuda? That's the California Veracuda.
That's the bad cuda, really.
Our party boat champions keep up both the banner and their fishing rivalry right after this message.
Keep that dear.
Hey, go, Rick.
All right, sweetheart.
We don't have to.
That's it.
That's it.
Took them clothes.
I have to come on.
Lift them strings.
Why you hooked me? Keep them fish.
Hey, man.
You want to...
Mr.
Christian come here.
You have a prescription.
Mr.
Christian come here.
Hey, man.
The judge, I got one.
You got one? Yeah.
Bring him on in.
Keep it up.
We really don't know what's the reason.
It's not going to be a good match.
It's going to be a good match, man.
Come on, no, no.
You're killing me.
You're killing me.
You're killing me.
You're killing me.
Are you killing me? You're killing me? Yeah, man, I got a mattress.
I got a jacket.
Keep it in there.
Like this.
I'm trying to open it.
You try to open it.
It's getting good.
Get it, Brad.
I'm trying to put this in here.
You got a tail.
You got a yellow tail.
What do I want? You can get him.
He can get him.
Don't let him get away.
Get him.
Get him.
Hey, he's free.
Hey.
We're going to get him.
Wow.
Look at you.
That's that one.
That's a good one.
That's a good one.
That's bigger than George's.
That's a good one.
You got one larger than mine.
You better let him in.
Hold that one.
Hold that one.
Hold that one.
Get him in.
Get him in.
Get him in.
That's it.
Get the deal.
Hey, you.
Put the red box on him.
Put the red box on him.
There's a hungry hero.
We need to get a side of him.
There you go.
We're in, aren't we, George? That's a pretty nice fish you got there.
Hmm.
Zorro has one.
Well, I've met this one.
I met a fish sandwich.
My husband's making it to us.
Well, never not this time.
Yeah, we'll measure it on the tank.
Just a minute.
All right, there.
It's a beauty.
All right.
Put that on.
Take it easy, man.
All right.
We should do this well.
Really? Yeah, no.
I think I got it right there.
One time, see? Red? I think I got one here.
Good, stop it.
I think I got one.
You got it, George.
Take it easy now.
You know what I think? I think he got away.
No, kid.
These are the smartest fish.
I have never seen fish this much.
I was just, each time they get the bait, too.
Oh, women, maybe I didn't eat that.
Maybe I didn't lose them after all.
Yeah, you got any, is it, Ben? Yeah, this is a fish.
Go ahead, George.
Get him now.
Yeah, this is a fish.
Not too hard.
Just fish.
Go ahead.
Get him, George.
Get him.
Pull him on him.
Get him.
Come on.
You and the contest this time, you have to go ahead.
Get him on him.
That's it.
He's in there.
Don't break it.
Don't break it.
Don't break it.
Don't break it.

Don't break it.
He's coming out.
He's getting me, George.
Oh, man.

Can I hold it like this? Wow.
He fought, man.
Yes, he did.
You're mine, you.
You are who I fought for.
You are who I fought for.
Hey, I think I got a fish.
Yeah.

No, I don't want to.
What do you want to know? He's always.
No! No! Hey, baby.
You need to see a dentist.
Did you think the chopper's on that chest? Isn't that a beautiful red on it? That's your red.
What? He's your cousin, Jim.
Oh, come on.
I don't play that.
That's my red part.
Zad, I got this girl.
Yeah, I want to try to help her catch.
Oh, oh, yeah, because she got in court.
I don't want to talk to you about anything.
And there's a reason.
You haven't caught anything, you know what, dear? I haven't caught anything.
See, old day, ready to catch a little? What you have to do is catch your line way out.
I'll show you how to do it.
Do you know what I mean? Just grab it like this and then get ready and throw it way out.
God! Look at that.
Oh, he's good.
All right, what a fake next thing.
There you go, dear.
That's the way you're supposed to do it.
Thanks, man.
Is that the way you do it, man? I'm not making it.
I'm not making it.
I'm not making it.
I don't know if we get better, I'm done.
That's great.
Oh, man.
Talking about time, George.
Very good day, dear, though, man.
Great day, dear.
Beautiful day.
Everybody calls him, she called him Mary Kudu, the younger tail.
Neither.
I call it a white fish.
Yeah, but...
I'm not causing any staves.
It's nothing.
But it was fun, man.
I never knew it could be like this.
Oh, said gang.
Ready to come in? All right.
All right.
Let's go.
We had all, here we are.
Everybody ready to pull this thing? Let's get on out here.
We going back to the zone.
You want to stay? Get out.
You want to take it out? Yeah, let's take it out.
Jump on off.
Take it out, man.
Give a beginner a day like today.
Full of fish, Pacific Sun, and laughing company.
And you just found yourself a fisherman for life.
