Abstract
Images of Deborah Cole's face (and various disguises) are superimposed atop one another.
"The beautiful pre-Raphaelite face in Le Mannequin moves into and out of the frame from side to side, so that when the action is complete the filmmaker seems to say 'only for now.'" — Barbara Sharres, "Trance Occurrences," Chicago Reader, January 15 1982.
“[Bruns's] films suspend waking logic and physics in favor of a dream world, often, as in Le Mannequin, separating the dream figure completely from any spatial reference. Le Mannequin consists of a series of dissolves between pans across a woman's head. The background is unarticulated white. The woman assumes various disguises. Time is suspended.” — Harvey Nosowitz, "A View of Chicago," Millennium Film Journal, no. 12, Fall/Winter 1982-83.
