Abstract

Comparing Bruns's films to those of Georges Méliès due to "their theatricality and their often monomorphic structure,” Harvey Nosowitz wrote “The Unusual Book, for example, is a trick film: a book opens to reveal, at the center of the white page inside, a living face. The film proceeds by elaborating this basic unchanging image.” (Harvey Nosowitz, "A View of Chicago," Millennium Film Journal, no. 12).
