Abstract
"The line that separates life from theater is a fascinating one. The actual theater curtain that divides the characters from the audience separates as well as celebrates this line; the plane where reality and illusion come together. This "verge" between the real and the unreal is one of the themes of this film." — Norm Bruns, in program notes published by the Film Center for a March 6, 1982 screening.
“Bruns' most recent film, The Theatre of the Horse and the Moonlight, has a linear structure more similar to the psychodrama, but resembles [Georges] Méliès in its theatricality: the film opens and closes with the opening and closing of a curtain, and takes place in a stage-like space.” — Harvey Nosowitz, "A View of Chicago," Millennium Film Journal, no. 12, Fall/Winter 1982-83.
