Home movie featuring the Wittman family camping in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Description
Winter 1960. Sara, Miriam, Elisabeth and Joanna Wittman and their friend Linda Lee sledding.
At Wittman home, 3306 W. Pierce, Chicago. Three younger girls, Miriam, Elisabeth and Joanna, putting on an “acrobatics” show for their parents. Sara plays her record player. Glimpse of mom Norma sewing. Dad Walter playing with the girls, his special game, “Sleeping Giant.” Then the girls get piggy back rides from dad and each other.
Summer. Camping at Rocky Arbor St. Park near Wisconsin Dells. Girls swimming in lake.
Camping at Itasca State Park, Minnesota. Views of Itasca Mounds, start of the Mississippi River, and bison herd. Back at campsite with canvas top trailer and tarp covering picnic table and cooking area. More camping at Lake Bemidji State Park. In Bemidji, visited a large statue of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. Riding on merry-go-round and Ferris wheel. Back at campground, swimming and fishing in the lake. Then to Scenic State Park with a large lake and roasting hot dogs over the fire.
“Fairyland” tourist attraction. Figures in woods, including fairies and a witch area. Visit to Oliver Iron Mine, Wasabi Range, large iron ore mine. McCarthy Beach, Minnesota, with girls running down sand dunes. Visit to the Chapel of the Pines, Side Lake, Minnesota.
