Abstract
A home movie shot by Frank Miyamoto featuring an air show, a road trip to Canada, and time with the Nakamura family in Chicago.
Description
The film begins with footage of an air show. This is followed by a road trip from Chicago to Buffalo, Montreal, and Ottawa, and then back home through Michigan. Features shots of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Musée historique canadien (a Montreal wax museum that closed in 1989), Webb's Motel and Cathay House in Ottawa, Parliament Hill (flanked with Mounties), the Des Joachims Development on the Ottawa River, the Sault Ste Marie branch of Eaton's of Canada, and the Mackinac Bridge.
The second half of the film includes footage shot in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Features shots of an Andes Candies storefront, Clark & Diversey Liquors, Clark Diversey Cafeteria, Paris Inn chop suey restaurant, Florsheim Shoes, Davidson's Bakeries, Elks National Memorial and Headquarters, and a playground in Lincoln Park. Concludes with a group of girls (wearing kimonos and holding American flags) performing a dance in front of a large crowd at an athletic field (Soldier Field?), a visit to Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles, a stop at the Hoover Dam, and a puppet show in a park with the family dachshund.
