The Little Theatre Presents: 4 Big Attractions
Date Of Production
circa 1955
Abstract
Four short segments shot in and around Stickney, Illinois. Includes a stop-motion cowboy drama, portraits of summer and fall foliage, and the Paulin family up to Halloween antics.
Description
The first of the four “Big Attractions” is a stop-motion cowboy drama using toy cowboys and horses. The title, “Chapter 2 of Rodeo Tragedy” implies it was part of a larger series.
The second is “A Summer Bouquet,” which is made up of shots of flowers in full bloom, sometimes using a heart shaped vignette. The footage was mostly taken in Paulin’s backyard and at nearby forest preserves. Some footage may have been taken at Garfield Park conservatory.
The third, “It Happens In October,” starts with footage of trees in the fall, often using a leaf shaped vignette. A segment titled “Headlines of the Month” humorously juxtaposes front page headlines with a minor local article about the Suburban Cinema Club, of which Paulin was a member, losing track of $112. It continues with Paulin’s children acting out scenes in costume.
The final segment, “Then Nite Fell,” shows Paulin and his family in Halloween costumes and includes some trick photography.
