Chicago Beat: RadioActive Love [Edit Master]
Date Of Production
1981
Abstract
This pioneering, pre-MTV, long form music video was written and directed by Dan Dinello. An apocalyptic love story, “RadioActive Love” links five music videos in a captivating science fiction story of alien love, betrayal and revenge that is narrated solely in song. Called “ambitious and intricate,” by the Chicago Sun-Times, it stars Jim Desmond and the Feelers performing “God Made Me Do It,” “Lie To Me,” and ”Bijou” and Bohemia performing “Hydrogenic,” and “Empty Room.”
The entire film was shot by Rich Carroll on 3/4 inch videotape, on the 11th Street soundstage of Columbia College Chicago, except for Super-8 footage of downtown Chicago street-life projected on a green screen. Partial funding for the film derived from an Illinois Arts Council Grant as well as a Columbia College Faculty Development Award.
