Description
Content notice: this film contains hate speech and hateful imagery.
Over the opening credits, a recorded audio message from the American Nazi Party plays, advertising "a rally against queers in Chicago." The first shots depict groups of Chicago Gay and Lesbian Pride Parade participants marching, some with musical instruments and others with banners slogans. The next shot shows parade participants assembled in the park, chanting slogans. Some hold banners from the June 27 Committee Against the Nazis. A woman leads these chants and gives a speech, as a police officer observes the crowd. As audio excerpts of parade participants chanting and hateful commentary from the Nazi rally play on the soundtrack, groups are shown marching in the parade, including some with banners from organizations such as the Fox Valley Gay Association, Parents and Friends of Gays and Lesbians, the National Coalition of Black Gays / Chicago, Chicago Jewish Lesbians, and the Lesbian Community Center. A new shot shows a man making an impassioned speech at the anti-Nazi rally. The scene returns to groups in the parade chanting and marching with banners. Participants in the Nazi rally are shown, separated from the Pride Parade participants by fencing and a police line. More shots of parade participants marching and rallying are shown, including many close-up shots of individuals and signs. Amid audio excerpts from an uplifting speech and a musical performance, Pride Parade participants are shown dancing in the park and the mood of the work tilts toward defiant jubilation.
