Abstract
Loosely assembled footage primarily depicts various parades, marching bands, and street protests. Shots include the following: Chicago protestors rally against Poland’s martial law in December 1981; red paint and eggs cover the Polish Consulate Building’s stone facade; bystanders admire a whale float at the Venetian Night Boat Parade; televised news footage depicts monkeys under the influence of cocaine; Chicago’s 1st Thomas A. Dorsey Gospel Festival is held at the South Shore Country Club on June 15, 1985; an international pet show is held at the International Amphitheatre on March 26-27, 1977; the Nicolaus Copernicus Monument stands outside the Adler Planetarium; the Man with Fish fountain operates outside Shedd Aquarium; a congregation reenacts Jesus’ crucifixion outside of St. Pius V Catholic Church; Chicago Police march toward St. Peter’s Church in the Loop; police boats patrol the Chicago River; Jane Byrne attends St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and Chicago Police make several arrests during the parade; circus elephants march across the street; contestants compete in a banana-eating contest hosted by Federal TV Electronics Warehouse, 955 W. Addison St.; Santa Clauses queue up in a Christmas parade.
