Footage of Chicago's Maxwell Street Market, likely shot in the 1940s by an unknown filmmaker. It made its way into Tom Palazzolo's collection while he was working on his 1984 film, At Maxwell Street.
The film captures the vibrant market: the signage for Market Book Store, located at 841 Maxwell Street, can be seen, and a woman tries to purchase a stack of books. Different vendors are shown selling their goods, including a gentleman who engraves jewelry at his stand while patrons watch. The final shots consist of a police car parked outside Leavitt's Delicatessen and Restaurant at 1320 South Halsted, and a brief view of Irving Theater (1310 South Halsted).
