Continue to remember those who have suffered so greatly as a result of this tragedy.

On behalf of our park commissioner and our general superintendent, Mrs.

Kelly, I'd like to welcome all of you to our Chicago Park District 22nd annual Harbor Day observance.

Harbor Day was first celebrated more than 100 years ago when settlers in the Midwest became alarmed at the lack of trees and started an annual tree planting ceremony in an attempt to make up the deficiency.

It is especially significant that the Chicago Park District, with its motto, a garden in the city, should celebrate Harbor Day in this ceremony here and also at hundreds of similar ceremonies at our parks throughout Chicago.

We at the park district, through our fine landscape division, have always sought to make the maximum use of trees and shrubbery in enhancing the beauty of our parks and playgrounds.

I hope that each of you will take a moment to think the real meaning of Harbor Day as you witness today's ceremony.

Harbor Day is a symbol of faith in the future of our country and particularly the future of our great city.

I want to thank the members of the recreation department for their successful job here today and also the fine cooperation from the landscape division.

And thanks to each of you for coming.

May I call upon the commissioner? I'm gonna build a new harbor tree.

Harbor Day, a very thoughtful day, is a day that's often called to take into consideration the beauty and importance of trees.

We should appreciate all the things that we can find for us and will continue to do for us if we carry them.

We should open our minds and have one of the trees on our list.

Showing the tree that you care even like you do anything, we need to have the true spirit on our list.

The trees deserve our kindness and especially on our list.

Harbor Day, question is asked and here's my reply, I love trees and this is why.

Trees are lovely and my way of life is just as beautiful as it was in one.

My household word is quite an honor that Morton's roots are in our great country.

It was Morton as a member of the Nebraska Board of Agriculture who introduced the resolution that set aside a specific day to be observed with the planting of trees.
