Abstract
A series of shots from vacations: lounging on a beach, going boating, and horseback riding in the mountains. The vacationers are happy-looking couples in their 30s and young relatives.
Description
The first sequence begins with a distant shot of several white people lounging on a beach in the foreground, with a young boy playing catch (wearing baseball mitt) near the surf in the background, followed by a closer shot of the adults, where individual faces, drinks, beachwear garments are visible. A car drives by (on the beach, between the group and the water) in the background. The beachgoers appear to be having a lively conversation, with a great deal of laughter, as cars continue to speed by behind them. The boy approaches the group along with a young, shirtless man in his late teens or early twenties, apparently the person he was playing catch with. The boy looks directly at the camera and puts his thumbs to his forehead while sticking his tongue out in a mocking gesture.
The next sequence begins with underexposed footage of three of the beachgoers, two men and one woman, boating in a small motorboat the shape and size of a large canoe. They boat toward the camera and the man riding in the back, near the motor, waves to the cameraperson. After a cut, we see them riding away. Another cut, and they are approaching again: they appear to be going in a small circle. We can see that they are slowing to approach a dock. The next shot is from the same vantage point (boat approaching camera) but there are different passengers. We then see five people on a bench near the dock, smiling for the camera. One man pulls a "FOR SALE" sign from behind the bench, lifting it in the air momentarily before setting it down on the ground. This is followed by a shot of three people smiling for the camera -- a white woman with curly hair, a white blouse and a patterned skirt sits in the middle of a large white outdoor bench, with a man sitting on the arms of the bench on both sides of her -- on the left side of the screen, a mustachioed man with tan/olive skin and a khaki button-up shirt, and a slightly younger and paler man in a white tee shirt, a wristwatch and circular-framed glasses.
The final sequences of the film begin with a young man wearing large-framed sunglasses and slacks riding a horse in a hilly, treeless landscape, likely a ranch. The horse trots and he appears to be jostled a little bit but maintaining control. He smiles broadly. Then, we see some underexposed shots of a mountainous landscape, which looks like it could be the Rocky Mountains or Sierra Nevada.
