Abstract
This film shows excerpts of Stuart Gordon’s stage adaptation of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, starring Meshach Taylor as Jim and John Cameron Mitchell as Huck, intercut with excerpts of a panel discussion, “Racism, Censorship, and Huckleberry Finn.” The panel discussion involves Taylor, educator Dr. John H. Wallace, Director of the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom Judith F. Krug, Waukegan alderman Robert B. Evans, Sr., playwright and drama critic Lenny Kleinfeld, and Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Mosher (unpictured), as they debate whether or not Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is racist. The Goodman Theatre held the panel discussion on January 28 and hosted the stage adaptation from January 25 through March 3, 1985.
