Two by four that went into the spokes of his wheels had to be the LaRouches.

It's incredible.

No question about it.

And obviously, even though people thought it was a fluke in the primary, the LaRouches, as we sit here tonight, have done exceptionally well in the Secretary of State's race and have even siphoned off quite a number of votes for Lieutenant Governor candidate Mark Fairchild.

Strangely enough, for some reason, heavy support in certain black awards.

And he really did have to run a heroic race, which probably was doomed from the beginning.

Well, the latest figures that we have, Joel, does show that James Spurgel, the solidarity candidate, is slightly ahead of him.

And when you take a look at that vote of the LaRouches, and if you add it back to Stevenson's total, we're almost back to 1982 with a very, very close race between Stevenson and Spurgel.

I think in some cases they actually did vote directly for them, particularly in Hart's case.

But if you're suggesting that in some cases they got the support because of the complexity of having to cross back and forth.

And Hart's 15 percent.

Edgar just made his victory speech at the downtown Hyatt Hotel.

Thousands of people around the state of Illinois have given their time and their resources to help Jim Edgar be rich.

He was our 10 -year governor.

There is so much on my mind tonight that I don't want to miss any of it.

And I apologize in advance if I do.

So let me give it a try.

First, the people of this state are extraordinary.

They're hardworking, believing, trusting, God -fearing people.

Four times now they have placed their trust in me, and I shall never forget that.

First to my opponent, Senator Stevenson, who campaigned diligently throughout the state of Illinois and ran a very tough and difficult race.

He has my admiration for the grit that he showed.

All around this state, people from the business world, people from labor, students, all of them shared a common dream.

And I am proud to say that I am proud of the people of this state.
