Irish Northern Aid means that we are willing to back up the people that's trying to fight for justice and freedom back in Ireland.

We are communist -oriented.

Well, we ain't.

We are not communism, socialism, or any otherism.

We are democratic -social.

Democratic -social republic we want.

No isms at all.

Communism, socialism, democratic -social.

They play hybrid tones on the cadoos.

The cadoos have been in Ireland.

The big four guns are now approaching.

Right there for the Irish.

The parade reflects all of Chicago and Cook County.

Families come out and watch a parade, marching, floats.

Respect for the family, respect for the church.

And I think this is what it's all about today.

And everybody's Irish.

The German day, the Polish day, the Puerto Rican, the Mexican.

It's something that reflects all of Cook County and Chicago.

Great tradition and a great family.

It's always been a political parade.

When I was my father, I remember we always attended mass as a family.

And then we marched in the parade and we always had dinner together.

It was a religious day, it was a family day.

I think this is what reflects even today of all of Cook County and the people that come here.

It reflects about the Irish and what they have given our country.

I think my father is represented in my family.

It's something that we've traditionally marched in the parade.

People have, say applauded, not only myself, but my mother and my family.

And that's what it is.

It's not a political clapper and all.

I think it's something that my father is different.

Patrick's Day Queen.

I'm thrilled and honored to be here today with my court.

And I've been having a great time.

Loosely assembled footage depicts Chicago’s downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade and the South Side St. Patrick’s Day Parade, during their 1981 and 1982 celebrations. Participants include Green Beret Major General Michael Healy as grand marshal in 1981, Mayor Jane Byrne, reporter and First Gentleman of Chicago Jay McMullen, sportscaster Harry Caray, news anchor John Madigan, 1981 parade queen Kathleen Jordan, State’s Attorney Richard M. Daley, Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy and his family, chairman of the city’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade Edward Brabec, Governor James Thompson, 1982 parade queen Patricia Joan O’Connell, and the Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band.
