Abstract
Loosely assembled footage shot by Bill Stamets for the Mayor’s Office of Special Events includes the following: Mayor Richard J. Daley and Chicago Cubs centerfielder Rick Monday (serving as Grand Marshal) march in Chicago’s Flag Day Parade on State Street, June 12, 1976; Soldier Field hosts Flag Day celebrations on June 13, 1976; the Venetian Night Parade floats along Lake Michigan; Mayor Michael Bilandic delivers a speech at the 22nd Annual Arbor Day observance and tree planting ceremony in Grant Park on April 29, 1977; Bilandic delivers a speech at the Buckingham Fountain’s 50th anniversary celebration on May 20, 1977; Vice President Walter Mondale, U.S. Rep. Frank Annunzio, Mayor Jane Byrne, Ald. Fred Roti, and others march in the Columbus Day Parade on October 13, 1980; Ald. Louis Farina introduces Mayor Jane Byrne from the reviewing stand during the Columbus Day Parade on October 11, 1982; a police procession heads toward St. Peter’s Church in the Loop; Muhammad Ali serves as Grand Marshal in the New World Patriotism Day Parade and then boxes with Floyd “Jumbo” Cummings in Grant Park on July 4, 1979.
