Abstract
Loosely assembled footage depicts the St. Patrick’s Day Parade queen contest finals held on February 25, 1977 in the international ballroom of the Conrad Hilton Hotel.
Shots include the following: a small group of women (at least one being a former parade queen) are identified by one member as, “representatives of the ethnic awareness of the Irish fellowship in the City of Chicago”; Edward Brabec, general chairman of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, leads off the evening with a prayer of St. Francis of Assisi; contestants parade across the stage in front of a long panel of 25 judges that include Ald. Edward Burke, columnist Maggie Daly, Chief Traffic Court Judge Richard Le Fevour, Circuit Clerk Court Morgan Finley, and County Treasurer Edward Rosewell; Mayor Michael Bilandic delivers a speech; the Shannon Rovers Irish Pipe Band march into the room and take the stage followed by several irish jig dancers; contestant Colleen O’Dwyer wins the title as parade queen and Brabec provides her with a sash and cape; contestants Kathleen Boyd, Kathy Jordan, Kathy Lynch, and Patty Powers are selected as O’Dwyer’s runners-up to accompany her in the parade’s horse-drawn carriage; O’Dwyer delivers an acceptance speech, receives a crowning from Bilandic, poses for photographs with her siblings and various officials, and follows the Shannon Rovers' procession through a City Hall corridor on March 3, 1977.
