Abstract
Footage of a ceremony held by the City of Chicago on October 18, 1982, as Mayor Jane Byrne dedicates the $33-million Columbus Drive Bascule Bridge in honor of police officer William P. Fahey, who was killed in the line of duty. Subsequent footage taken on October 31 includes the official opening of the bridge with a ribbon-cutting and balloon release, and documents Fahey’s widow Patricia as she drives the first automobile across the bridge with her children and Fahey’s parents. The film concludes with a marching band. Footage also includes Police Superintendent Richard Brzeczek.
