Abstract
Loosely assembled footage documents Mayor Harold Washington and his nomination for 3rd Ward Alderman Dorothy Tillman as they both deliver speeches at the Palmer House and campaign to secure Tillman’s position in the special aldermanic election to be held on February 26, 1985; Tillman engages in a live televised argument with competing aldermanic candidate James “Skip” Burrell shortly after he secretly recorded a conversation with Mayor Washington; Tillman and Washington both attend a press conference during which Tillman decries their political opposition’s circulation of the tape recording’s contents as an attempt to embarrass the mayor and herself, and to bring division within the black community.
