Abstract
Loosely assembled footage documents the following: A red, white, and blue banner hangs above the Gallier Hall entrance; Vice President George H.W. Bush arrives in New Orleans aboard the Steamboat Natchez and declares Senator Dan Quayle as his running mate for his presidential bid at a rally on the Mississippi Riverwalk on August 16, 1988; George W. Bush and Laura Bush attend the Republican National Convention; The Joan of Arc statue stands at its former Canal Street location; Barbara Cleaver and Sue Cates lead a group of AIDS activists past Duncan Plaza and attempt to pass through the Superdome’s fence to confront the Republican National Convention’s first session on August 15, 1988; The Louis Armstrong statue stands in Louis Armstrong Park; Commercial signs hang over a sidewalk in the French Quarter, and one storefront window displays a painting of an elephant in recognition of the Republican Party’s visit to town.
