Loosely assembled footage depicts food vendors, art, music, dancing, pony rides, goat petting zoos, carnival rides, Michael Jackson impersonations, and more at various summer festivals throughout Chicago. Festivals and other events include the following: the 5th Annual Bucktown Summer Fest, August 26, 1984; the Mexican aerial ballet troupe, Los Voladores performs at the 11th Annual Fiesta Del Sol held in the Pilsen neighborhood, August 10-12, 1984; an unspecified festival outside St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in University Village; the Day of the Dragon daylong festival hosts a kite fly in Grant Park, a lion dance on the steps of the Field Museum, and a fireworks show on August 12, 1984; Break Fest Chicago Style ‘84; an unspecified Polish festival; the 1984 8th Annual Morgan Park Roots Picnic; the Lakeview Central Festival on Belmont Street, July 27-29, 1984; the Chicago Jazz Festival in Grant Park; a musical performance by the Vanessa Davis Band, and appearances by Studs Terkel, Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man, and centenarian Louise Hawkins during Chicago’s sesquicentennial celebrations in Daley Center Plaza on September 12, 1983; city workers use fire department snorkels and a city cherry picker truck to affix a 12 x 6 foot, 30-pound Chicago Cubs cap on top of Picasso’s sculpture in Daley Plaza Center in late September 1984; world champion swimmer Benson Huggard, covered in cold-protectant grease, attempts to swim 10 miles through Lake Michigan’s approximately 57-degree waters with his legs tied for a fundraising marathon to combat hunger on September 30, 1984; Stevie Wonder sings, “Happy Birthday” and shakes hands with Dexter King at a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration held at Medinah Temple on January 15, 1985.
