Abstract
Loosely assembled footage captures the following: Chicago White Sox fans rally against the Baltimore Orioles in Daley Center Plaza on October 3, 1983, Mayor Harold Washington joins the White Sox team on stage and awards a bottle of champagne to manager Tony La Russa, White Sox co-owner Jerry Reinsdorf furnishes Washington with a team jacket, and rookie player Ron Kittle swings a bat into an Oriole-shaped pinata filled with baseballs; Chicago Sting fans celebrate winning the North American Soccer League Championship in Daley Center Plaza on October 9, 1984, Mayor Harold Washington delivers a speech, accepts a team jacket from Sting owner Lee Stern, and poses for photographs with Stern, coach Willy Roy, forward Karl-Heinz Granitza, and team mascot Stanley Sting; City workers use Chicago Fire Department snorkels and a city cherry picker truck to affix a 12 x 6 foot, 30-pound Chicago Cubs cap on top of Picasso’s sculpture in Daley Center Plaza at the end of September 1984; World champion swimmer Benson Huggard applies cold-protectant grease to his skin and attempts to swim 10 miles through Lake Michigan with his legs tied for a hunger fundraiser on September 30, 1984.
