And someone said to me, the Swedes are finally made up their mind where to put the statue.

Because for a long time they were undecided, as Violist knows, where they wanted it.

But they knew they wanted it moved out of Lincoln Park and it should be moved, but they had a difficult time.

But through the leadership of Violist, they finally selected this beautiful site.

And what a beautiful site it is on the Midway.

No other site in Chicago or any other city in the United States.

To grace this beautiful statue that means so much in the link between the people of Sweden and the people of Chicago.

We are profoundly grateful to His Majesty for being here with us on this occasion because it again links so well to the past because it happened in Chicago in the Middle West and the great...

He was awake from his children.

You should just see it on Sunday.

It's just filled with children crawling all over the city.

He was an outstanding botanist and is still working here at the University, right? Good.

They don't ever retire here after all these years of young men.

They clearly recognized the basic significance of plants in the world scheme of things.

Many, many years.

It wasn't just something we decided in 1976.

Abstract

Loosely assembled footage documents Mayor Richard J. Daley as he delivers a speech during a rededication ceremony for the 30-foot, 150-ton bronze statue of Swedish botanist Carl von Linne after its relocation from Lincoln Park to the Midway Plaisance on April 19, 1976; a performance by the Vanessa Davis Band, and appearances by Mr. and Mrs. Pac-Man and Mayor Harold Washington in Daley Center Plaza during Chicago’s sesquicentennial celebrations on September 12, 1983; a 3rd of July picnic in Grant Park, a speech by Washington, and an orchestral performance at Petrillo Music Shell.
