Abstract
Loosely assembled footage documents the 1988 Iowa caucus campaigns by Democratic presidential candidates Representative Dick Gephardt, Reverend Jesse Jackson, Senator Al Gore, Senator Paul Simon, Governor Bruce Babbitt, and Governor Michael Dukakis, as well as campaigns by Republican presidential candidates Reverend Pat Robertson and Senator Bob Dole. Footage includes the six Democratic candidates while on stage during the debate held at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, IA on September 27, 1987; Babbitt while on a bicycle ride across the state; Gephardt as he visits a retirement community, a Dairy Queen, Sabel’s Lounge at the Newton Inn in Newton, IA, and as he walks down a sidewalk in Albia, IA; Robertson as he speaks at several campaign events including a venue in Denison, IA; Jackson as he provides an interview while riding in his campaign van; Simon as he leads a parade of his supporters down a street; Dukakis as he speaks at Drake University in Des Moines; Al Gore’s mother Pauline Gore as she speaks at a campaign event; Bob Dole’s wife Elizabeth Dole as she speaks at a home gathering; Dole as he attends a campaign event held at Thomas Stock Farm near Waukee, IA.
