The next speaker is a member of the Arts Council staff, Ms.

We'll be under the spotlight presenting dance, theater, music, painting, sculpture, and photography.

This is Carol Washington.

On this occasion for me, it gives me an opportunity to thank the City Arts Group for their tremendous endowment contribution to this city and to the various neighborhoods over the years.

It marks a juncture, our eternity, in which they are stimulating their contributions and we are stimulating our concern about the arts throughout this city, not just downtown, but throughout the entire community.

On Washington and Deerfield streets, with a performance by the Joseph Holmes Dance Theater, and whereas from May 21 to May 26, city art scenes were live in Chicago with a total of 18 dance, music, theater.

Whereas the Chicago Community Trust is nice and 612.

And I know some of advisors are wondering, how could that young, smiling face be a good prosecutor? And that's a fair question for them to ask.

and a little group of ideologues who just run around all over the place, spouting some of the great goals and objectives, dealing with all of the things that you call apple pie and motherhood, but having a tremendous belief that the essence of politics is to promote positive and progressive change.

And the thing that I like about Larry Bloom best, I suspect should he become an attorney for the people, I can just see him when he gets serious about prosecuting a case, because when Larry gets serious, he tiptoes.

And so now, Mr.

President, I tell you that this so -and -so, you look around and you think that you're in the United States Senate or somewhere.

Larry, what we want you to do is just keep on being whatever it is that you decide to run for, if you decide to run, I've got a strong feeling that there are a lot of people who are going to run with you, and we're going to run with you.

I'm going to run for the people who are going to run with you.

They are all going to run with you.

I have got a strong feeling that I have a strong feeling about you.

There are people in this room who have much more experience in politics than I do.

But I've learned very basic lessons over the past four and a half years.

That is that the people don't expect much.

I am proud that as of this point, the Democratic voters have seen fit to give me the nomination.

And notwithstanding that there may appear to be opposition, I don't think that should stop us.

I think that opposition will dwindle.

I think that people like Hedvig Doliak and George Dunn, we can bring that group back together.

I think that the Democratic voters in this city are ready for a change.

And I think that the people all over this country are looking for a change.

They're looking for leadership.

And they're looking to Chicago for leadership.

The hosannas we've received from all over this country are staggering.

The goodwill pouring into this city should be enough to sustain us, at least to my first four years of office.

I asked you to be patient.
