Abstract
Loosely assembled footage depicts the following: Mayor Harold Washington exchanges pleasantries with State’s Attorney Richard M. Daley and State Senator Dawn Clark Netsch, possibly at Daley’s fundraiser held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on October 3, 1984; comedian Aaron Freeman performs his “Council Wars” routine; columnist Jon Henri-Damski, Ald. Ed Vrdolyak, Ald. John S. Madrzyk, Ald. Richard Mell, Ald. Marty Oberman, Ald. Roman Pucinski, and Mayor Harold Washington participate in a City Council vs. City Hall reporters softball game in Lincoln Park; Washington poses with members of the Chicago Police St. Jude League on a parade reviewing stand; Washington attends St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and rubs elbows with Cook County Board President George Dunne on March 17, 1984; Washington rides as grand marshal in the Christmas Parade’s route along State Street on November 25, 1984; Chicago International Art Exposition chairman John Wilson leads an exposition tour with Washington, his fiance Mary Ella Smith, and director of cultural affairs Fred Fine at Navy Pier in May 1984; Washington takes the stage in Daley Center Plaza and announces the commencement of CityArts Scenes, a weeklong celebration of community arts organizations, May 21-27, 1984; Washington, Jane Byrne, Ald. Richard Mell, U.S. Rep. Paul Simon, and parade queen Angelie Silva participate in the Puerto Rican Day Parade on June 9, 1984; Ald. Larry Bloom announces his candidacy for Cook County state’s attorney and celebrates his birthday surrounded by supporters that include Ald. David Orr, Ald. Bobby Rush, and Ald. Allan Streeter at the Midland Hotel on November 29, 1983; Mayor Harold Washington speaks at an event held at the Chicago Public Library Cultural Center; Washington publicly confirms his election as mayor at Donnelly Hall on April 13, 1983; Studs Terkel and Washington speak to an audience at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, possibly for a fundraiser held on January 21, 1983; mayoral candidate Bernard Epton greets supporters at a Lake Shore voting precinct; Jane Byrne, Jay McMullen, George Dunne, and Mayor Harold Washington march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17, 1984.
