The Parliament held in Chicago during September of 1893.

On the train to Chicago, he lost the committee's address.

Unfamiliar in the city, he wandered near the lake.

In Dearborn Street, he sat on a front porch to rest.

The door opened and a woman, Mrs.

Hale, offered him breakfast and afterwards took him to the committee's headquarters.

The Hale home later became the headquarters of Swami Vivekananda's spiritual activity in the Midwest.

Abstract

A documentary film about Hale House, a Chicago home where Swami Vivekananda lived while a speaker at the 1893 Parliament of Religions at the Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The film lingers on architectural details of the home while a soundtrack of Indian raga sitar music and Vedic chanting fills the air. The film was made by Larry for Swami Bhashyananda, the former head of the Vivekanandra Vedanta Society of Chicago.

Description

Hale House was located at what is today 1415 N Dearborn St in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood. The building that existed there in 1893 was demolished in the late 1960s.
