Black and white film depicting Richard Nixon in Chicago campaigning as running mate for Dwight Eisenhower in the 1956 presidential election. The film shows scenes of campaign speeches from both Nixon and Estes Kefauver as they work to gain votes in the Midwest.
Description
Many people line the streets of downtown Chicago to welcome Richard Nixon and his wife Pat Nixon. There are many signs in support of Nixon and Eisenhower and a few in support of the opposition candidate, Adlai Stevenson. Nixon, his wife Pat, and a few others ride in a car and wave to the people on the street, passing the Chicago Theatre. Nixon gives a speech discussing the moral, economic, and military strength of the Eisenhower administration.
There is a shot of a sign that says Springfield. Cuts to Kefauver leaving a building and getting into a car and waving to the people lining the streets. Those people have signs of support for Stevenson and his running mate Kefauver. Shows Kefauver shaking people's hands. Kefauver begins his speech against the Eisenhower/Nixon administration. He declares that the democratic party will get a "great majority from Ohio" that will put Stevenson in The White House.
