Abstract
Then Senator Lyndon B. Johnson gives a speech at the Morrison Hotel in downtown Chicago campaigning for himself and John F. Kennedy for the 1960 Presidential Election. Before the speech Johnson is greeted by both protesters and supporters.
Description
Begins in silence. In front of the Morrison Hotel in downtown Chicago a group of protesters carry signs reading:
"Does Lyndon Like Lynching? he Voted Against Anti Lynch Bills in 1937-1940"
"Dixiecrat Go Home Clean Up Texas"
"Lyndon You Are - No Treat, You Are A Big Trick"
"LBJ is for the Dixie way. We're For The American Way"
"Does Lyndon Like School Segregation? he Said 'I Don't Like School Integration'"
"Lyndon-Lyndon What [?] have Done? Trying to fool Negro Americans?"
"Jack say Lyndon is fair We Say - 'Lyndon is No-Where'"
"LBJ He Say No FEP for me he Voted Against FEPC in 1960"
"Ministers and Laymen Council on Human Relations"
There are also supporters carrying "Welcome Senator Johnson" signs. A marching band travels south down Clark Street, Lyndon B. Johnson pulls up in a car in front of the Morrison Hotel, he is greeted by supporters and protesters as he enters.
Inside there is a stage with "All The Way With JFK" and "Vote Democrat" signs above, attendees are packed in, sitting at long tables. This may be the Chicago Democratic headquarters. A Band plays behind Johnson as he waits to give his speech.
With Sound. Footage of attendees applauding. Mayor Richard J. Daley introduces Johnson, the band plays him in with "You Are My Sunshine." Johnson proceeds to talk about economic issues, competition with Russia, the decline of US international prestige, and then criticizes both the Republican Party in general and Richard Nixon specifically ending on a joke at Nixon's expense.
