Description
Footage captures a fire that began at 10:20pm in a ten-story gas processing unit at the Standard Oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana, January 29-30, 1957. Shots display plant firemen as they battle the blaze. Ice formations lining the processing unit’s equipment and hanging from a fire hose illustrate the unfavorable working conditions.
Seven workers were injured and 1,200 firemen were needed to contain the fire.
