Abstract
A young girl competes in the compulsory figures portion of a figure skating competition. Compulsory figures, also called school figures, are a series of patterns which skaters trace on the ice to demonstrate skill and technique. Compulsory figures accounted for a percentage of a skater's overall score in competition until the 1990s, when the International Skating Union voted to eliminate them from competition.
Description
The film begins with a young girl skating onto the ice. She skates a series of circular patterns while four judges observe her movements. After she finishes, the judges inspect the markings left by her skates, take notes on clipboards, and place markers on the ice.
