Muriel Humphrey Campaigning Racine [Wis. SOF and Sil. Neg. Trims 2-3-60]
Muriel Humphrey campaigns in Racine, Wisconsin on behalf of her husband, Minnesota Senator Hubert Humphrey.
The film begins with footage of Muriel Humphrey’s visit to the home of Dagmar Riggsbee, wife of United Auto Workers Union leader Orville Riggsbee, where Humphrey speaks with a group of women over coffee and doughnuts about her husband’s presidential campaign. Afterwards, she attends a buffet dinner held at the YMCA at which she warns that Nikita Khrushchev is an “able adversary,” and she also provides an interview on WRJN radio. The film concludes with Muriel Humphrey’s recital of a statement written by New York Times Magazine’s Russell Baker about Hubert Humphrey: “No one else in the Senate (for that matter, few other anywhere in American politics) is quite so intensely fascinated with quite so many things about this earth as he.”
