Description
This film shows the 1959 Miss Universe Contest held at the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium in Long Beach, California on July 24, 1959. Thirty-four contestants are shown walking the runway, first in gowns and then bathing suits. Akiko Kojima from Tokyo, Japan was ultimately crowned the winner, making her the first Asian woman to win the title. This was the last year that the pageant was held in Long Beach before it moved to Miami Beach, Florida in 1960, before the establishment of the Miss International pageant.
