Abstract
Richard Nixon comments on the U.S. space program’s progress.
Description
This film begins with Richard Nixon as he deplanes and promptly encounters a group of reporters on the tarmac. The following scene shows Nixon at a press conference where he is asked to comment upon the morning’s “space shot”, and he proceeds to compare the U.S. space program’s progress to that of the Soviet Union.
Most individuals in the film wear heavy overcoats indicating it is likely winter in Chicago. While most of the early U.S. space flights occurred in warmer months, one exception is John Glenn’s flight on February 20, 1962, which may be the date of this press conference.
