Abstract
Queen Elizabeth II gives a speech about the recently-completed St. Lawrence Seaway at the Ambassador Hotel in Chicago on July 6, 1959. The queen and her husband, Prince Philip, were on a 15,000-mile, 45-day tour along the St. Lawrence Seaway visiting all Canadian provinces and four of the Great Lakes, including a 14-hour stop in Chicago.
Description
Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Governor William Stratton and Mayor Richard J. Daley pull up to Chicago's Ambassador Hotel in a convertible, greeted by throngs of spectators and photographers at the corner of Goethe and State Streets. The Royals shake hands with guests in the hotel lobby. Slow pan over the tables of people gathered for lunch with the queen in Guild Hall. At the front of the room, standing between Governor Stratton and First Lady Shirely Stratton, Queen Elizabeth II reads a brief speech about the newly-opened Saint Lawrence Seaway.
