Abstract
After a motorcade procession down Michigan Avenune, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip take a guided tour of the Art Institute of Chicago on July 6, 1959. Board member William McCormick Blair shows them Impressionist works, Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles, and Picasso's The Old Guitarist. The camera lingers on El Greco's The Assumption of the Virgin and Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte.
The Queen and her husband were on a 15,000-mile, 45-day tour along the St. Lawrence Seaway visiting all Canadian provinces and four of the Great Lakes, including a 14-hour stop in Chicago. This was their only American stop and was the first visit of a reigning British monarch to the Windy City.
