Footage of Chicago firefighters battling a massive fire at a grain elevator on the Calumet River.
Description
Film starts at nighttime as fire hoses douse the flames as multiple Continental Grain structures burn. By morning, much of the fire has been extinguished, but firefighters continue to spray the smoldering wreckage from ships along the Calumet River, including the Victor L. Schlaeger fireboat.
The fire took place on January 21st and 22nd, 1957 near 93rd and the Calumet River.
