Description
The film begins with footage of the docked steamship Kristina Lovisa as it is unloaded at the North Pier Terminal in downtown Chicago. The ship’s cargo includes barrels of Spanish olives and sacks of flour. The film concludes with cityscape shots, as well as extensive footage of the Buckingham Fountain and Lake Michigan.
The Kristina Lovisa’s home port was Lovisa, Finland. This film likely documents the arrival of one of the first European cargo ships to Chicago via the Saint Lawrence Seaway after its opening in June 1959.
