Greene, Evelyn (was created by)
Evelyn Ross Greene was born in Chicago in 1921 to Anna (Axler) and Walter K. Greenbaum. In 1915, six years prior to her birth, Evelyn's father was indicted on charges of manslaughter in connection to the Eastland Disaster, as the general manager of the Indiana Transportation Company, which chartered the ship involved in the tragedy.

When Evelyn was a child, she gained a love of music. She attended Belmont School of Music in Nashville, TN and taught piano and harpsichord for a number of years upon returning to Chicago.

Greene traveled the world throughout her life, including to Antarctica, the Himalayas, the North Pole, India, Israel, and the Sahara Desert. She documented her travels extensively on both 8mm motion picture film and 35mm slides.

Greene earned her Ph.D in the harpsichord at the age of 79. She died in 2018 at age 96, leaving over $6 million to the Jewish Federation of Chicago's Community Legal Services and the Jewish Women's Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.
