Abstract
The Marks-Stix Collection consists of primarily of home movies shot by Arnold and Frances Marks between the 1920s and 1940s, and by their son-in-law Lawrence C. Stix from the 1930s to the '60s. The Marks films contain footage of the family home in Hyde Park (including daughters Muriel and Louise Marks pushing their pet goat around in a baby carriage in 1933), the Grand Hotel in Mackinac on the weekend before the market crashed in 1929, and family visits in Elgin. The Stix films feature sausage making in New York in the '30s, vacations to Europe, and Lawrence and Muriel's daughters growing up in Lincoln Park. Also contains two student films made by Paul Muth (Jennifer Stix's husband) in the 1970s.

Lawrence Cullman Stix, Jr. was born in 1915 in New York City, where he was raised by parents Lawrence Cullman Stix, Sr. and Babette Oppenheimer Stix. He enlisted in the Army in 1941, and served with the 247th Field Artillery Battalion, Americal Division, in the South Pacific, seeing action at Guadalcanal. After the war, he took over as president of Premier Casings, a subsidiary of the family-owned S. Oppenheimer & Company (a sausage casing distributor founded in Chicago in 1868). After his father's death in 1957, Lawrence Jr. took over direction of S. Oppenheimer, which had operations around the world. Mr. Stix retired in the early 1960s when the company was sold. He was a member of the Standard Club for more than 50 years, and active in several veterans' organizations.
He was married to Muriel "Mickie" Marks and they had two children, Louise (b. 1946) and Jennifer (b. 1958). The family lived in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. Lawrence passed away in 1996 at the age of 81.
