Abstract
A home movie filmed in 1979 by Adam Glinka, showing his workplace, leisure time in downtown Chicago, and vacations with family and friends in Elizabeth, Illinois. The film also documents Pope John Paul II's 1979 visit to Chicago.
Description
A home movie shot in 1979 by Adam Glinka that begins with shots of the European Lounge, a well-known Polish music club where Adam Glinka played. We then move to a metal factory, Adam’s first job after arriving in Chicago in 1979. The next shots are from downtown Chicago, including the Central Camera shop. The film also documents Pope John Paul II’s 1979 visit to Chicago, a boat trip on Lake Michigan and the Chicago River with members of Adam’s band, and a visit to New York. The second part of the film was shot at the “Terrapin Ridge” motel (unofficially called “Polskie Bieszczady” [Polish Bieszczady] after a tourist mountain region in Poland) run by Adam’s in-laws in Elizabeth, Illinois, and a visit to the nearby town of Galena.
