The Breakwater Loop: Long Version
Date Of Production
1972 – 1974
Description
“Shot approximately 1972, worked on 1973/74. Using my brother Mark as a model, I saw his prone body as an extension of the horizontal line of the concrete inner breakwater in Chicago's downtown Monroe Harbor. It was late fall, with an icy wind blowing out on the breakwater. We could hardly feel our hands during the brief time it took to shoot the footage. I had become fascinated by film loops, repetitive movement and the mesmerizing quality of an image and gesture seen over and over. In retrospect, as much as I still like this image, I don't think the repetitive nature of the film holds up as much as I had first hoped. ” — filmmaker Barbara Scharres
