Abstract
Silent newsfilm featuring the groundbreaking of the Chicago Educational Television Center at 5400 N. St. Louis Ave. on October 15, 1964. The Center was built to house WTTW (Chicago's PBS affiliate), and is now known as the Renée Crown Public Media Center. Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, Irving B. Harris (chairman of the Harris Foundation, which donated $200,000 toward the project), Seymore Simon (Cook County Board President), and Edward Ryerson (president of the Chicago Educational Television Association) are depicted in this film.
Description
Visible in the background is the campus of the Chicago Teachers College (subsequently known as Northeastern Illinois University), including the distinctive Beehive building (later known as the Jerome M. Sachs Administration Building).
